Individual, Couples & Family Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy is a structured process rooted in science and proven effective in both research and clinical trials to reduce identified problems (ranging from relatively mild depression & anxiety all the way to schizophrenia & severe addictions.)
Individual Psychotherapy, regardless of the topic being discussed, is conducted between the client & clinician directly.
Family Psychotherapy is conducted between the involved family members & the clinician, while marriage counseling (or couples counseling) includes only the couple & the clinician. Regardless of involved parties, one person is usually considered the "identified patient" & will be the insurance company's patient of record (if insurance is used.) Family psychotherapy helps family members approach identified problems in the family from an alternate, evidence-based perspective & maintain changes with mutual accountability.
Marriage Counseling, as defined by the Mayo clinic, helps couples of all types recognize and resolve conflicts and improve their relationship by making thoughtful decisions about rebuilding the relationship or going your separate ways.
